Glam girl Rakhi Sawant at her candid best with AT...
doweshowbellyad=0; Rakhi Sawant. (TOI Photo)More picsItem queen, controversys favourite child and always-in-news Rakhi Sawant isnt the easiest person to track down for an interview. After chasing her for almost a week, when we finally pin down the glam babe, she sounds chilled out and yes, as candid as we thought shed be. In fact she openly told Ahmedabad Times in an exclusive interview, that she hasnt ever been wary of calling a spade a spade and believes in listening to her heart.
A tough childhood without material trappings might have made her a survivor but Rakhi insists that at the bottom of her heart, she is really a seedhi-saadhi (straight forward) and saral (innocent) girl. I have undergone enough difficult times in life and I can bet that no other girl would have been able to overcome all that and achieve the kind of success that I have. It is impossible to become Rakhi Sawant. I am special. So while she wont comment on her reality television appearances (Bigg Boss, Nach Baliye 3 and now Chak De Bachche on 9X) or her much discussed love life (no more questions on Abhishek please), shes open to talking about her need to do item acts all over again. After doing Mohabbat Hai Mirchi (Chura Liya Tune), it has been sometime since Rakhi did an item number and we heard that she even trimmed down (insiders say she has a 26 waistline now), to shake her booty for item songs (Krazzy 4 and 1920). I am open to the idea of doing item songs which are classy and filmed aesthetically, she points out firmly.
Something that Rakhi feels shes never likely to do is kick butt on screen. I wont do a risky shot without using a body double. I dont need to show off how smart I can be in an action sequence. If I hurt myself doing a stunt and I am out of action for good, whos going to look after me and give me a second chance? And no dream roles for her either. She says, As an actor I cant afford to be choosy about my work. In our film industry, women seldom get the best roles. I can do justice to any role I am offered. Basically, I need good roles that dont offend my sensibilities as a woman and helps run my household.
She is also looking forward to working with Ram Gopal Varma, Yash Chopra, Rakesh Roshan and Abbas-Mustan. No guesses why she wants to though, They are box-office wizards and who wouldnt want to act with people who can promise you instant commercial returns? Her almost rags-to-riches stories might sound like a real fairy-tale, but Rakhi insists that it has been quite a roller-coster ride and there have been times when she has even felt suicidal. Love and success has of course stabilised the firebrand who claims that shes at peace with herself. I am very happy with my life. I believe that if one has talent, it is a matter of time before you become successful. I have struggled a lot in life and lived in dire poverty. Now I act with my heart, she says with a heart-felt laugh. Like we said, Rakhi sure knows how to have the last word, both on and off screen. Well, most of the time anyway!
